The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Monday that Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) is recalling four types of “SNICKERS” chocolate bars from the market because some physical contaminants (aka foreign bodies) were found in them, so the public should stop eating the bars.

The statement underlined that the product names, barcodes and expiry dates of the suspect batches are as follows: SNICKERS PEANUT SINGLE with code 4902397840602, best before January 8 or February 5, 2023; SNICKERS FUN SIZE 180g with code 4902397849056, best before February 5, 2023; SNICKERS MINI with code 45164804, best before January 8 or February 5, 2023; and SNICKERS WHITE with code 4902397863724, best before January 8, 2023.

According to the statement, the bureau has issued a safety warning to the food sector and sent officials to inspect the market since receiving the announcement from Japan. The statement highlighted that none of the suspect batches have been found in Macau but the bureau said it would continue to pay close attention and keep following up on the issue.

The bureau urged people in Macau to stop eating these kinds of chocolate bars if they were purchased from sources outside Macau. The bureau also urged the food sector to stop selling the suspect batches of chocolate bars while informing the IAM Food Safety Department immediately so as to protect customers’ food safety.

The bureau urged both residents and the food sector to check and ensure the conditions of any products, such as if the packaging and expiry dates are in order.

In addition, the statement noted that the food sector is obliged to keep the records and related documents concerning their products for a period of time so that the authorities can, if need be, track their origin and sales cycle.
