UM, Tsinghua University launch 1st student exchange programme

The University of Macau (UM) and Tsinghua University’s first student exchange programme was launched at the beginning of the year, with seven undergraduate students from Tsinghua’s University’s Department of Electrical Engineering having recently completed a semester at UM, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

The exchange students were quoted as saying in the statement that UM’s courses are “in line with the market trend”, while their English language skills improved during their stay.

The statement noted that during a meeting to conclude the exchange programme held by UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), the exchange students shared their learning experiences and research achievements at UM. The meeting was joined online and in-person by UM and Tsinghua University professors.

The statement quoted the faculty as saying that as the exchange programme is just “the beginning of various collaborations between the two universities”, a more comprehensive exchange platform is expected to be provided for students in the future. Moreover, both universities vowed to deepen their cooperation and work together to cultivate more professionals, according to the statement.

The statement underlined that the exchange students experienced UM’s residential college (RC) system, “whole-person education”, and multicultural environment, and also visited UM’s State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, the first of its kind in the nation, where they joined some research projects and exchanged ideas with professors.

Meanwhile, the students also participated in the RCs activities, which the statement pointed out, aim to hone students’ teamwork, service commitment, cultural participation, and leadership skills.
