The Love Macau Association held a candle-light vigil yesterday in the city’s main square, Largo do Senado, urging the government to hold its officials accountable for their deeds, such as in the recent land swap and typhoon signal rows.
The event started at 7:30 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m. The members of the association distributed candles to passers-by to join the vigil. However, there were very few who passed by that sat down with the group. During the one-and-a-half-hour vigil, about two dozen passers-by stood and listened to what the several members of the group were saying.
The association had initially planned to hold the event on Monday last week, but that idea was abandoned when Public Security Office (PSP) officers did not allow its members to hold the vigil because, the police said, the association had not notified the Civic and Municipal Bureau (IACM) of the gathering in advance within the legal period.
