Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) said in a statement yesterday that its team members recently visited the Alliance for Common People Building Up Macau (API) to explain Iao Hon Estate’s redevelopment and the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) in Hengqin’s development.

MUR is a company owned by the Macau government.

According to the statement, projects that the company is currently working on were presented by MUR Board of Directors Chairperson Peter Lam Kam Seng, Vice-Chairperson Leong Keng Seng, Board Member Tam Chi Wai, senior architect Nick Chan Hoi Wa and urban p–lanner Joyce Tam Hoi Ian.

The statement added that the team members also answered questions from the meeting’s attendees such as API Chairperson Si Ka Lon, Vice-Chairpersons Song Pek Kei, Chung Kin San and President Lei Leong Wong, and over 100 residents and shop owners from the neighbourhood, whose main concerns included ownership consolidation, redevelopment costs, and arrangements for shops to move back, among others.

The statement said that the team members pointed out that the Iao Hon Estate’s local area plan adopts “stock optimisation, vertical city and walkable neighbourhood concepts to create a comfortable environment for living and doing businesses”. The statement noted that the majority of property owners had agreed to proceed with the redevelopment, adding that MUR will continue meeting property owners to discuss details and consider different factors.

In order to accelerate the progress, MUR will promote Iao Hon’s urban renewal project through property owners’ agreements to redevelop rather than acquire the properties concerned. Priority, the statement pointed out, would be given to blocks of flats that have obtained enough agreements, “realising the local area plan one step at a time”.

Moreover, the team members also showed a video on the MNN livelihood project in Hengqin during the meeting. The statement pointed out that its public services such as education, community and medical services “will be in line with their Macau counterparts upon completion”, aiming to create a “multi-functional living environment” that residents are used to.

The statement said that many attendees asked about MNN’s sale arrangement, adding that MUR expects the housing pre-sale permit for MNN to be obtained at the end of the year.

The meeting was also attended by API Vice Presidents Hoi Long Tong, Chan Peng Peng, Yuan Hanjun, Zhang Senhua, Xu Zhiwei and Ng Hong Kei.
