Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre yesterday announced Macau’s 83rd COVID-19 case, a 26-year-old local man who returned to Macau on Monday from the United States via Singapore.

The man had come down with COVID-19 symptoms because of which his case has been classified as a confirmed COVID-19 case for Macau.

According to a statement by the centre, the man received a dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen adenovirus vector vaccine in April last year, before receiving a booster jab of the same vaccine in January.

J&J vaccine is a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the statement, the man flew from Los Angeles to Singapore on Saturday last week and caught a connecting flight to Macau on Monday. He tested negative for COVID-19 upon arrival at the local airport, because of which he was then transferred to a quarantine hotel for medical observation. However, the man tested positive for the novel coronavirus in a follow-up test on Wednesday, because of which he was then transferred from the hotel to the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for isolation.

According to the statement, the man meanwhile came down with symptoms of dizziness, headache, sore throat and mild fever, because of which his case has been classified as Macau’s 83rd COVID-19 case.

Asymptomatic tally rises to 143

Meanwhile, the statement announced two COVID-19 positive cases imported from Taiwan and Thailand, raising Macau’s asymptomatic tally to 143.

The statement also announced a COVID-19 “re-positive” case imported from Hong Kong.
