The government-initiated Macau International Museum Day Carnival 2022 was held in Iao Hon Market Park yesterday as part of the celebrations of International Museum Day (which actually took place on May 18), according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.
The statement noted that the opening ceremony was attended by guests and officials such as IC President Leong Wai Man, Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, and Public Security Forces Affairs Bureau Director Seak Teng Fong, among others.
The opening ceremony, according to the statement, was followed by an award ceremony for the podcast competition “One Museum, One Story: Expressing the Power of Museums through Sound”, and featured performances by tourism mascot “MAK MAK” and a Wing Chun martial arts performance by young martial artists.
This year’s theme for International Museum Day is “Power of Museums”, which was set by the International Council of Museums.
A number of activities were held during the carnival such as the game booths “Museum Exhibit Shrink Plastic Keychain”, “Mailing Bullseye”, and “Stories of Stones”, according to the statement. Moreover, workshops, a WeChat game with lucky draws and guided cultural tours was also held. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong also had “publicity stands” at the venue.
The carnival was jointly organised by 20 museums including the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, Former Chong Sai Pharmacy, Tung Sin Tong Historical Archive Exhibition Hall, Xian Xinghai Memorial Museum, Lin Zexu Memorial Museum.
Meanwhile, the statement emphasised that museums will act in line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) guidelines, with visitors required to wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, present a valid “Venue QR code” and “Macao Health Code” of the day, maintain social distancing, and follow on-site measures.
