Legendary Hong Kong diva, actress and MC Liza Wang Ming-chun will perform at the closing concert “Liza Wang and The Macao Chinese Orchestra” of the “32nd Macao Arts Festival (MAF)” tomorrow and on Thursday at The Venetian Theatre.
She has been nicknamed the “Big Sister” of Hong Kong’s entertainment industry. Wang was a deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC) from 1988 to 1997, and she is now a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). She is known for her strong patriotism and during yesterday’s meet-the-press event praised Hong Kong’s incoming chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu for his strong personality.
Wang performing with the “The Macao Chinese Orchestra” under conductor Hu Yongyan, tickets have been sold out since the first day of sale, according to a Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) statement yesterday.
During the meeting yesterday, Wang and the bureau’s Performing Arts Development Department Chief Cheang Kai Meng spoke to the media about their thoughts on the concert and programme highlights.
Wang said that she will be performing her top hits which have been arranged in different styles. The statement noted that some of the classics to be performed include Young’s Female Warrior, Love and Passion, as well as The Brave Chinese.
Wang told the media that she was excited to be performing and that her songs were sent to the orchestra for practice a long time ago, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she needed to wait for her performance in Macau to get off the ground.
Moreover, with the performance having already been rescheduled twice in the past, she said that she did not want to postpone it any longer and, therefore, was happy to go through quarantine in Macau. She stressed that she enjoyed her two-week quarantine here.
In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) pandemic prevention measures, the audience at the two upcoming shows must show proof of completion of the COVID-19 vaccine (two doses of the inactivated vaccine or the mRNA vaccine) 14 days before (indicated on the Macao Health Code with a gold frame) or a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result issued within 48 hours, prior to entering the venue, the Cultural Affairs Bureau reaffirmed in yesterday’s statement.
