Macau Science Centre listed as ‘Scientists’ Spiritual Educational Base’

According to a statement by the Macau Science Centre, it was listed yesterday as one of the nation’s “Scientists’ Spiritual Educational Bases”.

The statement said that the move was an affirmation of the centre’s efforts made in science education and the promotion of the spirit of science, adding that it is the only science centre on the list in the Chinese regions of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

The statement said that the “Scientists’ Spiritual Educational Base” is divided into eight categories: Science and Technology Museums, State Key Laboratories, Memorial Halls (Relics) of Major Science and Technology Projects, as well as the Former Residences of Scientific and Technological Figures, Research Institutes, Schools, and Technology Enterprises.

According to the statement, the list was jointly issued by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), as well as Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

The statement noted that the centre will continue to produce and promote online programmes that are related to the nation’s scientists, such as the father of hybrid rice – Yuan Longping, who have contributed their achievements to the country, so as to share their spirit of selflessness and scientific innovation with the public.

The statement also said that this year the centre will optimise the educational zone of Chinese scientists in its exhibition area by setting up an exhibition room under the theme of the the nation’s scientists to promote the spirit of science to Macau’s young people.
