The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement late last night that it has destroyed a box of frozen catfish fillets imported from Vietnam after samples taken tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

After the samples tested positive for COVID-19 last night, the statement said, the bureau activated its contingency plan and destroyed the product in the box weighing a total of four kilogrammes.

The statement underlined that no products from the batch have entered the market. IAM officials have thoroughly disinfected the area where the batch of the products was stored and its surrounding areas, and have passed the personal information of those who had contacted the products to the Health Bureau, the statement said.

The Municipal Affairs Bureau has suspended the import permit of the food processing plant in Vietnam for one week, the statement said.

While samples taken from the frozen catfish fillets tested positive for COVID-19, samples taken from the products’ packaging tested negative, according to the statement.

The statement underlined that no products from the food processing plant had been imported into Macau over the past three months, except the batch of the frozen catfish fillets.
