According to a Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) statement yesterday, the average temperature this summer, which means the months of June to August, in Macau is predicted to be normal to above-normal, while accumulated precipitation for the season is expected to be normal to above-normal, and there’s a risk of extreme rainfall.
The statement noted that Macau’s climate this summer will be mainly affected by the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and tropical weather systems. It added that when the WPSH is controlling South China, the weather in Macau will be sunny and hot. The statement added that there will be rainfall when the WPSH weakens and that South China will be under the impact of tropical weather systems.
According to the latest observations, the “La Niña” phenomenon is still maintaining the colder-than-normal sea surface temperatures over the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, the statement noted. The phenomenon is predicted to weaken in the summer, the statement added.
