Macau’s number of licensed motor vehicles rose 1.0 percent year-on-year to 246,854 at the end of April, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced last week.
Based on Macau’s population of 681,700 at the end of the first quarter (the latest available official demographics), there were about 2.76 inhabitants per motor vehicle` at that time.
The number of light automobiles (113,015) and heavy motorcycles (106,121) increased 1.2 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
New motor vehicle registrations in April dropped 12.9 percent to 846, including 160 electric vehicles, or 18.9 percent of the total number.
In the first four months of the year, new motor vehicle registrations fell 14.1 percent to 3,844.
The number of traffic accidents in April decreased 9.8 percent to 922, with 3 people killed and 362 injured. The daily average of traffic accidents amounted to 30.7 in April.
Between January and April, there were 3,909 traffic accidents, resulting in four fatalities and 1,363 injured people.
