A public health centre in Coloane’s Seac Pai Van neighbourhood will come into service at 11 a.m. today, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement yesterday.
The new health centre will replace a provisional health station elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
Since the sprawling Seac Pai Van public housing estate was completed about a decade ago, its residents had been served by the provisional public health station only.
According to local media reports, around 30,000 people (around four percent of Macau’s population) live in the Seac Pai Van public housing estate, which consists of about two dozen blocks comprising subsidised home-ownership scheme (HOS) flats and social housing rental units.
The Coloane Seac Pai Van Provisional Health Station was located on the ground floor of Block 5 of Lok Kuan Building, a social housing estate.
According to yesterday’s statement, the new Seac Pai Van Health Centre is located on the ground, first and second floors of the Seac Pai Van Health and Social Services Building.
The new health centre has a gross area of 5,600 square metres, or 12 times the gross area of the provisional health station.
In addition to the new Seac Pai Van Health Centre that replaces the Coloane Seac Pai Van Provisional Health Station from today, the Health Bureau has six health centres on the Macau peninsula, two health centres in Taipa, and a health station in Coloane Village. In addition, the Health Bureau also runs a health station that specifically serves senior citizens who live in and around Taipa Village.
Near the Seac Pai Van public housing estate lies the luxury private residential estate One Oasis.
Yesterday’s statement said that the Seac Pai Van Health Centre will serve certain areas of Coloane, covering a population of between 30,000 and 40,000.
As the provisional health station, the new health centre in the Seac Pai Van neighbourhood opens between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays. In addition, it opens on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. only providing special nursing services.
The COVID-19 vaccination service at the provisional health station will be transferred to the new health centre.
In addition to various types of community health services, according to the statement, space has been reserved in the new Seac Pai Van Health Centre for the future provision of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health care and stomatology (oral medicine).
Furthermore, the statement also said that the outpatient services of Macau’s eight health centres, two health stations and the health station for seniors served over 860,000 patients last year, with the Areia Preta Health Centre serving the highest number, at over 170,000.
