Considering the short incubation period of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 which enables detection of infected cases within 7 days after their exposure to the virus, and having analysed the recent experience of the mainland Chinese authorities and the data collected by the local government, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre (NCRCC) said in a statement today that with effect from 00:00 on Wednesday (June 15), individuals who meet certain conditions entering Macau from the Hong Kong, Taiwan or foreign countries will be subject to a "10+7" anti-epidemic measure, i.e., 10 days of mandatory quarantine at a hotel designated by the local government and seven days of self-health monitoring.
Until June 15, the mandatory quarantine period continues to be 14 days.
According to the statement, the “10+7” measure applies to arrivals who meet all the following conditions:
1) Having completed COVID-19 vaccination prior to entry;
2) Having tested negative in the nucleic acid tests (NATs) on arrival and during the period of mandatory quarantine;
3) Agree to comply with relevant anti-epidemic requirements.
Those who meet the requirements may, after undergoing 10 days of quarantine, i.e. on the 11th day of their entry into Macau (the day of entry until 6:00 a.m. on the following day is taken as Day 0, after which every 24 hours is counted as one day), leave the quarantine hotel and practise seven days of self-health monitoring.
During the period of self-health monitoring, the Macao Health Code will be displayed in green colour, subject to submitting themselves to NATS on Day 11, 12, 14, 16 and 17 of arrival.
Those who fail to take the test as scheduled will be assigned a Macao Health Code in yellow colour; if no test is taken after 24 hours of the specified dates, their Macao Health Code will turn red.
Arrivals from Hong Kong, Taiwan or foreign countries are not allowed to travel to mainland China via Macau until the NAT conducted on the 14th day of entry returns as negative.
Besides, those who have not completed COVID-19 vaccination for health, age or any other reason, as well as those who have tested positive upon entry or during quarantine shall be subject to quarantine for at least 14 days. Those who tested positive will be monitored by the Health Bureau according to the actual circumstances.
The quarantine duration for persons visited or lived in specified areas in the Chinese mainland will also be adjusted accordingly. The specific requirements will be announced in due course.
Macau's COVID-19 tally stands at 83, not including asymptomatic cases. No COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Macau, which is one of the world's less than a dozen countries and territories with a zero COVID-19 death toll.
Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 cases in January 2020.
