The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement yesterday that the amount of floating rubbish and plant material, such as branches and leaves, on the surface of Macau’s coastal waters has increased in recent days, adding that the situation is serious in some areas, such as the Inner Harbour.
The bureau estimated that this was due to the unsettled weather recently such as continuous rain, which washed the rubbish from the coastal areas into the sea.
The statement said that the bureau has told a government-outsourced cleaning company to send more staff to clean up the debris that is floating on the surface of the sea and also in the coastal areas. The statement added that more DSAMA staff will be sent to the surrounding areas and beaches to inspect the situation.
The bureau urged Macau’s maritime sector and residents to maintain Macau’s environment clean.
