According to a statement by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) yesterday, three trees, comprising an Araucaria heterophylla (aka Norfolk Island Pine), Michelia x alba (also known as white champaca) and Cinnamomum burmannii (or Indonesian cinnamon) in Avenida Doutor Stanley Ho, Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon and Travessa do Conselheiro Borja respectively, will be removed this month.
The statement said that during a seasonal inspection of the trees in each district, IAM officials discovered that 70 percent of the Norfolk Island Pine’s trunk had been damaged, which increased the danger of it falling, so IAM staff will remove it within a short period of time. The statement added that in order to protect the public’s safety, IAM staff will also uproot the white champaca and Cinnamomum burmannii that have been confirmed to be dead.
The statement noted that during the removal period, part of the roads will be blocked while the trees are cut down, so the bureau urged drivers to pay close attention to the temporary traffic arrangements at that time.
