In response to the current COVID-19 outbreak, the Wui Ieng Temporary Accommodation Centre (匯應臨時收容中心) is available to provide temporary accommodation to those in need of shelter, the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) announced in a statement yesterday.
The government-owned shelter is operated by Caritas Macau, the statement noted.
The bureau, the statement noted, urged members of the public to seek assistance from friends and relatives if possible before resorting to the centre’s service as the number of vacancies available is limited, and also in order to reserve resources for those that need them most.
Moreover, the statement pointed out that employers are also “encouraged to provide assistance to non-resident workers with temporary accommodation needs” in conjunction with pandemic prevention efforts.
The centre is located at Rua Leste da Ilha Verde. The statement underlined that the centre has also implemented preventive measures in line with the Health Bureau (SSM) such as for its users and staff wearing a facemask, undergoing a temperature check, maintaining social distancing of over one metre, scanning the Macau Health Code and Venue QR code. The statement reminded the public to observe pandemic prevention measures.
The centre is open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily and is subject to careful cleaning and disinfection during the rest of the day to ensure a safe environment, the statement said.
Enquiries can be made on 2827 0939 during office hours and 6399 1963 during non-office hours.
