Several members of the government-appointed Cultural Heritage Council yesterday opposed moving an old temple adjacent to Kun Iam Temple in Avenida do Coronel Mesquita “sideways” to make way for a new road.

The council held its fourth meeting yesterday at the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC). Yesterday’s meeting was chaired by the council’s vice-president, IC President Guillerme Ung Via Meng, and one of the topics on the agenda was the “cultural value” of the temple.

The council, chaired by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng, was set up as a consultative body following the enactment of the Cultural Heritage Protection Law in March 2014.
