A local woman was arrested on Thursday for trying to pass drugs to her husband who is staying at a COVID-19 quarantine hotel in Coloane for medical observation, according to a statement by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Friday.

The local suspect surnamed Lao, aged 32, told the police that she’s jobless.

The statement noted that PJ officers had recently received a tip-off, pointing out that Lao was planning to hide drugs inside a suitcase, which would be handed to her husband who is in quarantine.

According to the statement, based on the tip-off, the Judiciary Police put Lao under surveillance. On Thursday, PJ officers saw Lao driving a man and a woman to the COVID-19 quarantine hotel, where the police stopped and searched the suspect when she was preparing to transfer the luggage to her husband in the hotel. The police found a quantity of drugs in the suitcase, the statement added.

The statement pointed out that PJ officers also found a handbag containing drugs and drug-taking paraphernalia, in Lao’s other car in her residential car park.

The statement noted that 9.4 grammes of cannabis and four bottles of hash oil containing tetrahydrocannabinol were found in the suitcase and handbag, worth 20,000 patacas.

According to the statement, under questioning, Lao admitted that she had tried to provide the drugs to her husband who is being quarantined at the hotel.

The statement underlined that the Judiciary Police have not found any evidence to show that the two other people in the suspect’s car were involved in the case.

The statement underlined that Lao tested negative for drugs, and she was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Friday morning, facing drug-trafficking charge.
