The local government promulgated yesterday an administrative regulation (bylaw) in the Macau Official Gazette (BO) on its upcoming tender of 5G licences.
According to the regulation, bidders can submit their proposals through August 12. Initially, the licences are slated to have a duration of five years. The bids must offer Macau “social benefits”.
The regulation calls for the granting of up to four licences. It did not say when the tender will be held.
The operators are to pay five percent of their gross receipts to the government. Successful bidders must start their 5G operations within a year.
CTM, Macau’s main telecom operator, told public broadcaster TDM yesterday that it was ready to cover the whole city with its 5G network. CTM Vice President Aguinaldo Wahnon told TDM’s Radio Macau that the company had already invested 600 million patacas in setting up the necessary infrastructure.
