The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement that its subsistence team yesterday paid a fact-finding visit to Fai Fu Building and provided its residents with food packs and supplies “appropriate” for seniors.
The subsistence team is an ad hoc entity set up to provide support such as the delivery of meals to residents in buildings locked down during the current COVID-19 outbreak.
Fai Fu Building is a social housing estate for seniors in Fai Chi Kei, which has a total of 556 residents, according to the statement. Most of the residents live alone. In line with the aim of striking a balance between the seniors’ culinary preferences and diet, the statement noted that the team is providing “softer and easier-to-chew foods”, including softer rice in hot meals, as well as bread and food packs with instant oatmeal.
Aside from the hot meals, the statement pointed out that the team will provide vegetables and frozen meat food packs if the seniors would like to cook for themselves. Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) provides special meals for those requiring special care.
The statement added that the team also tested the contact numbers provided by the elderly to confirm that they are correct, in order to ensure that they can keep in touch during the building’s lockdown.
