An exhibition titled “Belonging” is showcasing graduation projects by students from the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ (FAH) Department of Creative Industries (DCI).
The projects, according to a USJ statement, are from students majoring in Architectural Studies, Communication and Media, Design, and Digital Cinema.
The statement noted that the exhibition’s theme “conveys the sense of shared community and creativity” at the university, bringing together four different exhibitions: Gap (Architecture), Shift (Design), Unusual (Communication and Media), and Power (Digital Cinema).
“Gap” comprises nine projects that explore “urban gaps as an opportunity to develop alternative interactive spaces”. The statement said that the works were made with the aim of “revitalising the urban gaps by reconnecting useless spaces with context to achieve users’ needs and new alternative ideas to improve the potential positive impact of the Macau Masterplan on the Outer Harbour Zone 1”.
Zone 1 refers to the Outer Harbour Land Reclamation Zone, generally known by its Portuguese acronym, Zape.
The statement added that “Shift” had students “design for impact”, addressing factors such as social relevance and economic sustainability. The projects show students’ “diverse interest and perspective” and a common vision of “contributing to a more sustainable and liveable Macau”.
“Unusual” comprises nine individual projects showing “different and original perspectives” of Macau, exploring techniques that blend photography, videography, sound and art installations.
“Power” had four short films under the theme of the same name, which were screened at the exhibition’s opening ceremony last month. The statement noted that the short films were produced, directed and edited by Digital Cinema students under the supervision of the programme’s coordinator.
The exhibition is located in the basement of the university’s Kent Wong Exhibition Gallery in Estrada Marginal da Ilha Verde and runs until September 30. However, due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, the USJ facilities are closed until further notice, while all activities are suspended.
