Albergue SCM’s Gallery A2 is currently showcasing works created through various mediums in “Roots, Solo Art Exhibition by Giulio Acconci”.

The gallery is located in Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro.

According to an Albergue SCM statement, the exhibition features 20 of Acconci’s works, all of which were created with the “bold use” of mediums such as red wine, glass, plaster, and wire. Through this, the statement noted, the artist shows a collection of paintings and installations created with his personal quest for artistic expression, with the theme “roots” explored through varied perspectives.

Born in Macau in 1972, Acconci is the son of the late Oseo Acconci, an Italian sculptor and renowned architect in Macau, and Deanna Soler Acconci, an ethnic Karen from Myanmar. The statement said that Giulio moved to Italy in 1989 and in 1990, worked as an assistant to Agostino Dessi, a famous mask maker in Florence.

The statement said that he joined Istituto Palazzo Spinelli in Florence a year later to study graphic design and worked as a graphic designer at Sesamo Comunicazione Visiva in Figline Valdarno in 1993. When he returned to Macau, the statement noted that he pursued his music career under the name “Soler” with his twin brother Dino.

Acconci has been exploring various painting techniques since 2016 and held his first solo exhibition, “Mazu”, in 2017, the statement said.

The exhibition runs until August 15 with free admission. However, due to the current COVID-19 situation in Macau, the gallery is temporarily closed until further notice.
