The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Saturday that it has enhanced inspections of businesses in various districts that it licenses and supervises, urging them to cooperate with its COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

The statement noted that a few hair salons were found failing to strictly implement COVID-19 prevention measures after reopening, but have since made improvements after having been warned by the authorities. Hair salons, the statement underlined, were allowed to operate on a limited basis starting at 00:00 on Saturday, with the prerequisite of ensuring that they follow the government’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures.

The statement pointed out that customers must scan the venue QR code, have a valid green Macau Health Code and wear a KN95 (or of a higher standard) facemask when entering a hair salon.

Moreover, businesses were reminded by the bureau via SMS messages that they must strictly implement COVID-19 prevention guidelines, with the statement adding that hair salons should control the flow of people through appointments or other measures and have customers sit in alternate seats. Cleaning and disinfection of items such as towels and hair cutting tools are also necessary, according to the statement.

In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) guidelines on the operation of businesses, those working in hair salons, restaurants and takeaway shops, as well as indoor and outdoor municipal market vendors must complete daily rapid antigen tests (RATs – self-tests) prior to working, and undergo a nucleic acid test (NAT) every other day, the statement underlined. They must also take “adequate personal hygiene protection measures” when working to protect both their customers and their own health.
