A local man yesterday submitted a petition, addressed to Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, urging him to provide assistance over alleged medical malpractice in which his wife died of cancer after the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre refused his request to transfer his wife to a hospital outside Macau for treatment, according to local Chinese-language online media All About Macau.

In response to the petition, the hospital said in a statement last night that it assesses every request to transfer a patient for treatment outside Macau strictly in accordance with a regulation promulgated in 1986.

The petitioner, identified by All About Macau as Wong Kam Weng, told reporters outside Government Headquarters, where he handed in his petition to an official, that he requested the public hospital in 2012 to check if his wife’s breast cancer had returned but the examination was not carried out after an oncologist deemed there was no need for it.
