A dumpster at the loading bay in an industrial building on Avenida do Dr Francisco Vieira Machado caught fire yesterday morning, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai quoted the Fire Bureau (CB) as saying in a statement yesterday.
No one was injured in the incident.
According to the statement, the building’s administrator was informed by workers at about 9 a.m. that a dumpster was on fire, so they reported the incident to the Fire Bureau after putting out the fire themselves. Firefighters cooled down the scene with their hoses after they arrived, the statement added.
The statement said that upon examination, firefighters found a large number of cigarette ends in the burnt dumpster, which was considered a suspicious fire so they reported the case to the Judiciary Police.
The statement said that PJ officers searched the burnt dumpster at the scene, adding that the fire also affected two motorbikes and a light goods vehicle (LGV) parked near the dumpster. The statement noted that the backs of the two motorbikes were damaged, while the light goods vehicle had its tail-light and back bumper burnt, and the vehicle also had smoke damage.
Damage and repair costs have not yet been noted, according to the statement.
The Judiciary Police have classified the case as suspected arson.
