A taxi driver crushed a charger at an electric vehicle (EV) charging station and simply left, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong said the local suspect surnamed Lo is in his thirties.
According to Wong, power utility CEM reported to the police on July 20 that a charger of an EV charging station in Povoação de Sam Ka in Taipa was damaged. Wong said that the police used their citywide CCTV camera system and identified Lo who had used the charging station twice for his taxi in the evening of July 18.
Wong said CEM told the police that the incident caused damage valued at 9,800 patacas.
Wong added that the CCTV footage showed that Lo did not place the charger properly the first time after he had finished charging. When he returned to the charging station later that day, Wong said that Lo got out of his car and appeared to be “looking for” something on the ground, after which he drove away immediately. Wong noted that no one else had used the charger in between.
According to Wong, on August 4 Lo was called to a police station for questioning. He admitted that he drove over the charger but claimed that he did not know it was damaged by him.
Wong underlined that Lo faces a charge of evasion of responsibility. His case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
