Macau government-owned Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) announced in a statement yesterday that that the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) project basement construction in Hengqin was completed in the middle of this year and superstructure* works of the buildings have begun as pre-fabricated components are being installed.
The residential and school buildings’ structures are expected to reach topping-out** before the end of the year, the statement noted, offering a new space for Macau residents to live and work, as well as providing an environment similar to Macau.
The statement said that at the site, construction of floors in over 20 buildings is currently taking place. Moreover, three components of the residential units are being built in an eco-friendly way by using “pre-fabrication practice”, i.e., “prefabricated façade panels, prefabricated staircases and prefabricated autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) panels”, according to the statement.
The statement added that auxiliary facilities are to be simultaneously built such as a kindergarten, primary school, and around 5,000 square metres of commercial space (roughly 60 shop units).
The project is “progressing according to plan” and 27 residential towers and school buildings are expected to reach topping-out in December, while works on fitting-out, roads and greening facilities would gradually begin, the statement pointed out.
The MNN project is expected to be completed in the second half of next year. Meanwhile, the statement said, MUR and relevant entities are studying to set uo the eligibility criteria for MNN and the sales procedures, and expect that the roughly 4,000 residential units will be launched for sale next year.
*Superstructures are defined by a Wikipedia article as an “upward extension of an existing structure above a baseline”, applied to physical structures such as buildings.
**Topping out is defined as a “builders’ rite traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed atop a structure during its construction”, according to Wikipedia.
