Melco celebrates achievements of 20 ‘Back-to-School’ staff members

Melco Resorts & Entertainment hosted a Back-to-School” graduation ceremony for 20 staff members who had been studying for their high school diplomas while working full time at Melco as part of its Whole Person Development initiative, the resort operator said in a statement yesterday.

Yesterday’s event was attended by Melco Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung, Luís Gonzaga Gomes Luso-Chinese Secondary School Vice Principal Ieong Weng Si and University of Macau (UM) Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming Director Prof. Davis Fong Ka Chio.

The statement noted that Melco has been implementing the programme since 2010 in conjunction with the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macau (DSEDJ) and Luís Gonzaga Gomes Luso-Chinese Secondary School, providing

colleagues who left school prematurely an opportunity to gain their high school diploma in-house through undertaking formal education alongside their employment at Melco.

The statement said that special awards were also presented at the ceremony, with eight graduates receiving Outstanding Academic Awards for the achievement of 85 points or above; nine graduates receiving Outstanding Academic Awards for the achievement of 80 points or above; one graduate receiving the Li Bai Award for the year’s top result in Chinese Language; two graduates receiving Lotus Award for overall highest achievement for Junior High School; and one graduate receiving the Lotus Award and Macau Foundation Award for Art Education for Senior High School

Ho was quoted in the statement as saying: “Congratulations to the latest group of programme graduates who have spent the past 3-4 years studying for their High School Diploma during full time employment, showing incredible perseverance. We continue to encourage all colleagues to pursue lifelong learning for personal and professional development.”
