Resort operator Sands China praised its team members at a rally on Wednesday at The Londoner Macao to recognise their dedication in supporting the company’s COVID-19 pandemic relief work.

According to the statement on Wednesday, team members spent over 7.5 million hours on community service in support of these efforts since 2020. Sands China volunteers took over 27,000 shifts to aid in operating various local nucleic acid test (NAT) stations and contributed over 135,000 service hours as of August.

The company also has offered The Venetian’s Cotai Expo as an NAT station in response to the government’s citywide mandatory testing campaigns, where team member have also been volunteering in addition to other stations including at the Sino-Portuguese Vocational School, the statement noted.

Moreover, the statement underlined that Sheraton Grand Macao has been used as a quarantine hotel nine times since 2020, with The Parisian Macao also used for quarantine in June to further support the community. On-site team members worked closed-loop shifts nearing 7.4 million service hours, while over 6,000 rooms in both hotels were used at the recent outbreak’s peak.

Certificates, the statement pointed out, were awarded to staff representatives in appreciation of their support, among other activities. The event was also simulcast online and on video screens at Sands China properties’ back-of-house staff areas for those who couldn’t attend the event in person, the statement said.

Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted in the statement as saying: “Our company firmly believes it to be our duty to unhesitatingly contribute to COVID-19 prevention in Macau, as part of our corporate social responsibility and in our role as a company rooted in Macau for nearly two decades now. Our thanks go to all of the team members for their continued dedication and to the Macau government for always providing guidance and support in safeguarding the entire Macau community during these challenging times.”
