The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that with the approaching Tropical Storm “Ma-on” and expected unstable weather, it has cooperated with Macau Residue System Company, Ltd. (CSR) to develop a preliminary plan for the rubbish clearance work before and after the storm, urging members of the public to cooperate.
The statement noted that the bureau arranged for CSR to clear the rubbish and miscellaneous objects off the streets ahead of the storm, ensure that all the rubbish is collected in low-lying areas in advance, and arrange for rubbish collection vehicles to be parked around the city to collect debris and wind-borne rubbish immediately after Tropical Cyclone Signal No.8 is cancelled, among others.
Moreover, the bureau has also enhanced communication with neighbourhood associations of low-lying areas and given them cleaning supplies in advance such as plastic bags, gloves and brooms to enable volunteers to clean up after the storm if necessary.
The statement pointed out that the public should store domestic waste at home before the issuance of Tropical Cyclone Signal No.8 and to only dispose of it after the storm. Moreover, to avoid obstructing traffic and affecting the rubbish collection, bulky items should only be disposed of after the peak collection period, the statement underlined.
Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that the bureau also regularly inspects advertising signboards. The statement added that whenever Standby Signal No. 1 is in force in Macau, the bureau sends SMS notifications to signboard licence holders to remind them to pay attention to their signboards’ condition to ensure the public’s safety.
