The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement that five people got into a fight at Block 14 of Hoi Pan Garden estate on Estrada Marginal da Areia Preta yesterday, adding that the four people injured in the brawl were taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.

Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leng said in a separate statement last night that the Public Security Police yesterday referred a “family and money dispute” case to the Judiciary Police for further follow-up, adding that at about 1 p.m. yesterday, three people in a takeaway shop in the building had a dispute with the two other people over financial matters.

According to the statement, the fight’s two local male victims are aged 33 and 68 respectively, while a local male suspect and a local female suspect, both surnamed Lei, aged 67 and 34 respectively told the police that they are jobless. The third suspect is 34-year-old man from the mainland, surnamed Lin, a non-resident worker (NRW) employed as a hairdresser.

The statement didn’t elaborate on whether the two suspects surnamed Lei are related. The male Lei was the only one not injured in the fight.

The statement said that during an altercation between the five people, a fight ensued, and one of the suspects took out a knife and stabbed one of the victims, so a member of the public who saw what was happening immediately called the police.

The statement noted that one of the victims suffered knife wounds.

According to initial evidence, the statement said, the suspects face charges of causing grievous bodily harm. The statement added that the case remains under investigation and that only one of the injured was expected to remain hospitalised.

According to a separate statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) yesterday, the 33-year-old victim was admitted to the public hospital with severe bleeding on the left side of his chest. He was also bleeding from stab wounds to his left forearm and left index finger. The statement added that he was drifting in and out of consciousness while being rushed to hospital.

The statement said that the 68-year-old victim sustained a swelling on the right side of his face, a cut on his right wrist and a contusion on the right of his forehead and his right eye, while the 34-year-old male suspect sustained bruises on his head.

The 34-year-old female suspect sustained bruises on the left side of her upper lip, right little finger and right shoulder during the fight. The statement added that three of the four injured were conscious and stable at the time they were taken to the public hospital.

The statement pointed out that the police set up a cordon around the blood-covered crime scene.

Stabbings are rare in Macau.
