The first MUJI Macau store is tentatively slated to open at The Venetian Macao in December and will be one of the largest retail stores in both Hong Kong and Macau with a total area of 1,950 square metres, the resort operator announced in a recent statement on behalf of Japanese retail giant MUJI.
According to the statement, the store will provide “apparel, household goods, food, and on-the-go essentials that meet the needs of every aspect of day-to-day living”. It will be operated by MUJI Hong Kong, with the statement pointing out that The Venetian was chosen due to it being a large-scale shopping complex “well known to locals and visitors”.
The statement noted that regarding the new store’s “Nature and Modern Living” design concept, it will have two floors, with the lower floor having natural materials including wood, stone, and metal “used to reveal their original and processed forms” and enabling “customers to re-discover nature, the origin of every object, and explore its possibilities”. The upper floor will include artificial industrial materials such as metal plates and steel pipes mixed with natural materials to create new textures, along with an open ceiling design, the statement noted. There will also be a rest area for customers.
Meanwhile, the statement underlined that the new store is set to feature men’s, women’s and children’s wear, household goods, food, on-the-go essentials, among others. It will also feature a 65-square-metre home living thematic display area, where MUJI furniture and storage items are arranged together to present living room, dining room, and bedroom scenes, the statement added.
The statement said that as of May 2022, MUJI operated over 1,050 stores worldwide, with 490 stores in Japan and 565 stores elsewhere. MUJI entered Hong Kong in 2001 and the mainland in 2005.
