The University of Macau (UM) said in a statement yesterday that it is hosting the Joint Exhibition of Macao and Mainland University Libraries Service Innovation at the UM Library until September 15 to showcase achievements of member libraries of the Portuguese Language Resources Alliance for Academic Libraries in library service innovation.
The statement noted that since the establishment of the alliance between Macau and the mainland, its member libraries have together provided various services and different activities such as inter-library document borrowing services. The joint exhibition is in response to the alliance’s “One Library One Product” activity to showcase innovative library services, the statement said.
The statement pointed out that UM Vice Rector Rui Martins noted that local and mainland university libraries have redoubled their efforts in recent years to promote library service innovation, adding that the exhibition will help facilitate exchanges between libraries and promote their services.
The exhibition, according to the statement, displays the member libraries’ new technologies and service projects developed, as well as thematic information services for each of them. Some of these include mainland libraries such as the Peking University Library showcasing how it has used ancient books to develop historical literature courses for its different departments, UM’s digital tour guide system for the area of the Ruins of Saint Paul’s and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Library exhibits “innovative services for patent handling, document provision, and ancient map management”, among others.
The public university noted that the exhibition is expected to be a “reference and guideline for the exchange and cooperation between the member libraries and the future development of university libraries”.
The touring exhibition will continue at MUST, City University of Macau (CityU Macau) and the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) after it has ended at UM.
