Works of renowned Japanese artist Okuda Yuta are on display at the Humarish Club Art Space in Lisboeta’s H853 Fun Factory, showcasing his first solo exhibition in Macau titled “With Gratitude”.
A recent Humarish Club statement noted that the new art space’s opening ceremony last month coincided with the launch of the solo exhibition.
Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, the works convey “the need to deal with everything around us with a grateful heart” and were inspired by “the love for life” and the aim to embrace our colourful world, according to the statement.
The statement said that the artist started to paint flowers under the theme “With Gratitude” to convey a sense of gratitude amid the pandemic, embracing life and the world after realising that the things he had always taken for granted were special all along.
The designs are also based on the artist’s childhood memories that he remembered when he “salvaged himself” during the pandemic, the statement underlined.
Okuda Yuta, the statement said, was born in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture in 1987 and studied fashion design in both Japan and England. He worked as a designer for the fashion brand TAKEO KIKUCHI and became an artist in 2016. Since then, he has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Japan, while his first solo exhibition in Macau came after his touring exhibition in Singapore, the statement said.
The new “Flowers” series, the statement pointed out, marks “a shift in the process of his work, one that embraces opportunity and serendipity”.
The exhibition runs until Sunday and is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
