A rider and a driver were arrested last week for drunk-driving, Public Security Police PSP spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong said the 44-year-old rider surnamed Kuong told the police that he’s a casual worker, while the 27-year-old driver surnamed Mou works in a casino.

According to Cheong, on Friday at 10 p.m. the police received a report that a man had fallen off a motorbike on Sai Van Bridge near Taipa. Police officers arriving at the scene found a disorientated Kuong lying beside his motorbike vomiting and reeking of alcohol, Cheong said, adding that a breathalyser test showed that Kuong’s alcohol concentration was 2.8 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Under questioning, Kuong admitted boozing in a restaurant in Rua da Praia do Manduco from 8 p.m. that day, Cheong said, adding that Kuong was too drunk to remount his motorbike after he had fallen off.

Meanwhile, the other suspect Mou was intercepted by the police at a police roadblock for a regular check in Avenida da Ponte da Amizade in Areia Preta district. Mou was reeking of alcohol, and a breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 1.22 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.  Mou admitted drinking earlier that day.

The two suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Officer (MP), facing charges of drunk-driving, Cheong said, adding that Kuong also faces a dangerous driving charge.
