A businessman was arrested for providing illegal beauty treatments, including Botox and hyaluronic acid injections, to 13 customers including two men in a hotel guestroom, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong said that the 34-year-old suspect surnamed He is a tourist from the mainland who told the police that he’s a businessman.
According to Cheong, the police were tipped off recently that someone was providing illegal beauty treatments. On Saturday, police officers went to He’s hotel guestroom on Avenida da Amizade and found medical components such as syringes, medicines and bottles there.
Under questioning, He admitted that he had been conducting beauty treatments, but claimed that he had a “medical cosmetology qualification” from South Korea, Cheong said, adding that He performed Botox injections, hyaluronic acid injections and removal of dark circles under the eyes treatments.
Cheong said that He had first provided treatments in May to seven customers, arranged by an intermediary. He made a 12,000 patacas profit, half of which was given to the intermediary, Cheong said, adding that He conducted six more treatments last Friday and Saturday. According to Cheong, two of He’s customers, both male, told the police they had paid for He’s services; one paid 1,200 patacas for a Botox injection, while the other paid 1,500 patacas for dark circles under the eyes treatments.
Cheong said the Health Services Bureau (SSM) confirmed that He was not licensed, while the police have informed the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) about He’s illegal working status.
He has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP), facing a charge of the unauthorised exercise of a licensed profession, Ho said, adding that the police are still looking for the intermediary.
