A recent statement by Macao International Documentary Film (MOIDF) said that the 6th MOIDF Festival themed “outsider” will kick off tomorrow at CGV Nova Mall Cinemas in Taipa, with 30 works, including “Fire of Love”, “Flee” and the masterpieces of Zhou Hao who is an iconic contemporary Chinese documentary filmmaker, adding that the “Macau Documentary Competition” will be held during the festival to showcase the creativity of the new generation of local directors.

According to the statement, the festival, which will run for two weeks, has been organised by Comuna de Han-Ian and sponsored by the Cultural Development Fund (CDF).

The statement pointed out that this year’s theme –  “outsider” – refers to the people, who live on the fringes of society with little hope of scoring victories, but all have ordinary, small yet genuine power.

The statement noted that the festival will begin with “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain”, talking about the secrets of Michelin-starred restaurants and celebrity chef and author Bourdain, while this year’s “Classic-Doc” programme will be the “Seoul Independent Film Showcase”.

The statement said that Zhou Hao, who is good at capturing different aspects of Chinese society and has won the Golden Horse Awards for two consecutive years, will be invited to the “Director-in-Focus” programme, adding that apart from displaying his classic works, such as “The Chinese Mayor” and “Cotton”, he will also interact with the local audience at masterclass during the festival.

Portuguese Film Director Jorge Jácome’s “Super Natural” and “The Territory” will be part in the “Taste of Portuguese” programme, according to the statement.

The statement pointed out that five works have been shortlisted in the 1st Macao Documentary Competition, covering a wide range of topics, including local professional boxers, cross-boundary students and family relationships. The statement added that the result of the competition will be announced at the opening ceremony tomorrow.
