Two mainlanders were arrested in a flat on Rua de Nam Keng in Taipa last Friday for damaging a private car and motorbikes parked on the roadside, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.

According to Lai, both suspects are male non-resident workers (NRW) in their thirties, surnamed Luo and Kuang.

Lai said that last Friday morning, a video circulating online showed two shirtless men appearing to be drunk and rocking a private car parked on Rua de Nam Keng and pushing over 13 motorbikes nearby.

Afterwards, Lai added, the Public Security Police immediately launched an investigation and contacted the vehicle owners to ask whether they wanted to take legal action on whoever was responsible.

At 5 p.m. on that day, the owner of one of the motorbikes parked on the roadside that was pushed over by the duo told the police that he wanted to take legal action as his vehicle was damaged when they pushed his motorcycle to the ground, Lai noted.

After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, PSP officers identified Luo and Kuang as the suspects and arrested them at 6 p.m. last Friday at their flat.

Under questioning, Luo and Kuang admitted that they had rocked the car and pushed over the motorbikes on the roadside, causing damage to them after drinking alcohol at a restaurant on Rua de Nam Keng in the early hours of last Friday, promising that they would bear the repair costs for the damaged vehicles, according to Lai.

Both have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing property damage charges, Lai said.
