The Economic and Technology Development Bureau (DSEDT) and The Industry and Commerce Federation of Islands of Macau (INCA) jointly launched the “Arraial in Taipa” (悠氹仔) activity themed “Wonderful Chinese and Portuguese Cultures” on Friday at Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa, aiming to accelerate Macau’s economic recovery and to improve the situation of commercial businesses in the community, according to a DSEDT statement on that day.
The activity will last for four months until January 31 next year, covering the National Day Golden Week, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Chinese New Year holidays, the statement pointed out.
The statement noted that the activity takes place in Taipa Village where residents and tourists can enjoy augmented reality (AR) technology features with Chinese and Portuguese characteristic aspects, such as Chinese wishing lanterns, Portuguese blue-and white tiles, Chinese dragons, and sardines, as well as special consumption offers and incentives in the community, all of which’s aimed at attracting residents and tourists alike to buy goods, while enhancing their visiting experience.
DSEDT Director Tai Kin Ip said in a speech at the opening ceremony that the government continues to promote economic community development, create a sound business environment and support local small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in applying technology to achieve business and management innovation.
Tai also said he expected the “Arraial in Taipa” activity to be as effective as the “Arraial in Rua dos Ervanários” and “Arraial in Coloane” activities, adding that before the recent Mid-Autumn Festival, four AR interactive programmes were trialled to attract both residents and tourists to try out the games, which helped drive the flow of people in the community.
The statement noted that more than 70 business operators are participating in the activity, which “basically” covers the “whole of” Taipa. It added that discounts, gifts and raffles will be offered by the participating businesses.
“Arraial” is a Portuguese word for an open-air neighbourhood festival.
