The “Celebration of Art & Culture – Artistic Lantern Festival” exhibition, co-organised by SJM Resorts, Macau Artist Society and Macau Youth Art Association, kicked off yesterday at Jardim Secreto (“Secret Garden) of Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) Resort Macau in Cotai.

The exhibition will open to the public with free admission from today to October 31, which showcases nine large-scale lantern installations created by 14 local artists, aiming to promote the conservation of cultural heritage, while highlighting the art of traditional Chinese lantern-making.

SJM Resorts Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung said in a speech that local artists were invited to jointly create a raft of lantern installations, which show the seamless cooperation and endless creativity across time and media.

Ho told reporters after the launch ceremony that the exhibition will be transformed into a comprehensive annual large-scale cultural activity of SJM, hoping to bring art into more people’s daily lives by supporting local cultural and creative undertakings, while promoting the heritage and innovation of Chinese traditional culture, so as to give full play to the linkage effect of the combination of the cultural and creative industry with the tourism industry.

When reporters asked about SJM’s hotel reservations for the National Day Golden Week from October 1 through October 7, Ho said that so far the hotel booking situation was “ideal”, with new orders coming in every day, hoping there was good news for the hospitality sector.
