A driver was arrested on Saturday for drunk-driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lam said that the local suspect surnamed Cheang, who is in his thirties, told the police that he’s a sales manager.
According to Lam, Cheang was stopped by officers in the wee hours at a police roadblock for a regular check in Avenida da Ponte da Amizade in Areia Preta district. Cheang was reeking of alcohol, and a breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 1.52 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood. Cheang admitted drinking at a bar on Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes in Zape earlier that day.
Cheang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge, Lam said.
Lam also urged the public not to underestimate the seriousness of driving under the influence (DUI).
The violator faces up to one year behind bars and a driving ban for up to three years.
