A man in his seventies was arrested on Thursday afternoon in his flat in Taipa for sexually harassing a local woman by touching her thigh, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said in a regular press conference on Friday.
Cheong noted that the Hong Kong suspect, surnamed Wu, told the police that he is jobless.
According to Cheong, the victim in her twenties reported to the police at noon on Thursday that she had been sexually harassed by a man who was walking towards her and touched her thigh with his hand when she was walking in Taipa in the morning, adding that she had shouted at the perpetrator, who fled the scene after touching her.
Cheong said that PSP officers identified Wu as the suspect who was arrested later that day at his flat on Rua da Ponte Negra.
Under questioning, Wu denied that he had touched the victim’s thigh, Cheong said, pointing out that after scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, the Public Security Police confirmed that Wu “intentionally” touched the victim’s thigh when he walked past her.
Wu has transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces a sexual harassment charge, according to Cheong.
