Zhuhai has extended the implementation of its measure which – generally speaking – allows travellers to commute between Macau and Zhuhai via certain checkpoints only once a day, to the end of this month.

The extension started at 00:00 a.m. on Sunday and is now slated to end at 11:59 p.m. on October 31.

The extension was announced in a statement by the Zhuhai health authorities quoted by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) on Saturday.

Since August 9, in general, travellers had only been allowed to commute between Macau and Zhuhai once a day via all Macau-Zhuhai checkpoints, except those belonging to special groups, such as cross-border students, drivers and mortuary workers. The measure, which was initially slated to end at 11:59 p.m. on September 8, was extended on the following day for one more month but the then one-month extension was only applicable to the Gongbei, Qingmao and Wanzai checkpoints (officially called “ports”).

Saturday’s statement announced that the Zhuhai health authorities had decided to extend the measure that has only been applicable to the three checkpoints through October 31.

As the previous extension, this time’s extension that started on Sunday is not applicable to Hengqin checkpoint, and the Zhuhai-Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB), i.e., travellers are not subject to a limitation on the number of their commutes between the two cities per day via these two checkpoints.

The Macau-side checkpoint of Zhuhai’s Gongbei checkpoint is the Barrier Gate checkpoint, while Qingmao is a Macau-Zhuhai joint checkpoint which is located in Macau’s Ilha Verde district. Zhuhai’s Wanzai checkpoint runs a ferry service with Macau’s Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal.

Hengqin checkpoint is a Macau-Zhuhai joint checkpoint in Zhuhai’s Hengqin Island, which connects with Cotai via the Lotus Flower Bridge.

As of yesterday, according to Macau Health Bureau (SSM) data, Macau’s COVID-19 tally of confirmed and asymptomatic cases stood at 793 and 1,658 respectively, of which 787 and 1,647 had meanwhile been cured. Macau’s novel coronavirus death toll remained at six.

As of yesterday, 626,846 people in Macau had been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 602,462 had completed two or more doses, according to the bureau, which has urged certain age and risk groups to get their fourth jab as soon as possible.
