Wynn Resorts said in a statement this week that it has recently won the Grand Award in Sustainability and Social Responsibility at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Awards 2022, being the first integrated resort in Macau to garner the award.

The PATA Gold Awards, according to the statement, recognises “outstanding organisations and individuals in the tourism industry, acknowledging the very best that the Asia Pacific’s travel industry has to offer”.

The Grand Award was given to Wynn owing to its variety of sustainable development strategies, initiatives and the use of advanced eco-friendly technology. The statement noted that it further reinforces Wynn’s commitment to support and promote the city’s sustainable development.

The statement underlined some of Wynn’s focus areas such as becoming the first to adopt the “Winnow Vision” smart system with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce food waste in 2019 and expanded the Winnow programme to local institutions to promote the application of smart technology in the hospitality industry in 2021; and winning the “The 2nd Sustainable Development Forum 2021 – Typical Cases of Carbon Neutrality”, where it was “the only excellent environmental enterprise to be recognised from those based in either Macau, Hong Kong or Taiwan”.

The statement added that Wynn is also the first and only enterprise in Macau to acquire a dual certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Chain of Custody (CoC).

Rishi Tirupari, Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace Vice President of Sustainability, was quoted in the statement as saying: “As a leading hospitality brand, we believe that our signature award-winning service can and must be delivered in a way that respects our people, our communities and our environment. This commitment extends beyond the walls of our properties, impacting the whole of Macau”.
