A man was arrested last Monday while he was being detained for illegal voice recording when he was applying at a police station for documentary proof that he had filed a report to the police before, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Friday, adding that after his detention he suddenly became agitated and damaged the police station’s wooden door by pushing benches into it.
The spokesperson noted that the local suspect, surnamed Lao, is in his forties.
Lao had put his mobile phone on the table and activated its voice recording when he was applying for the document at a police station in the northern district last Monday. After the police found that Lao was recording their conversation, they repeatedly warned Lao that recording in a police station was illegal, but Lao ignored the warnings and continued recording while refusing to show his ID card to PSP officers, according to the spokesperson.
As Lao did not heed the PSP officers’ warnings to stop recording, the spokesperson noted, he was taken to the detention room of the police station to wait to be transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on the following day.
While in detention, the spokesman added, Lao became emotional and violently pushed some benches that were in the room and damaged the wooden door, so the officers needed to subdue him.
The spokesperson said that at the time of the press conference the case was still under investigation, adding that Lao had refused to cooperate.
