Albergue SCM said in a statement yesterday that its family Halloween event “Trick Or Treat St. Lazarus” will be held next weekend, October 29-30.

The Albergue SCM-organised Halloween activity has been held annually since 2015, with the exception of 2021 when the event had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement noted.

The event, according to the statement, is “the biggest outdoor ‘costume party’ for kids and families” that enables them to explore the historical neighbourhood of the St. Lazarus (São Lázaro) quarter.

Participants such as children and parents will don costumes and find a variety of shops on a candy map to collect stamps, the statement noted. Kids can redeem candy at the finish point upon visiting all shops on the map.

The statement underlined that the event’s purpose is to promote community tourism through inviting families in Macau to explore the old neighbourhood; stimulate the economy through participants’ discovery of neighbourhood shops such as those involved in lifestyle, clothing and restaurants along the route; and to promote creativity as participants choose or create their costumes.

Trick-or-treat means to extort small treats on Halloween by the purported threat of property damage or a practical joke.

More details can be found on the event page at www.Facebook.com/TrickOrTreatMacau.

SCM is the abbreviation for Macau’s over four-century-old Santa Casa da Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy) charitable organisation that owns the property in S. Lázaro district. “Albergue” is Portuguese for “hospice”.
