Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said today that adherence to the conclusions of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be a major task and the top priority for the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in its current and future work.
Ho urged Macau's various sectors to gain a better understanding of the spirit of the congress, which ended earlier today, and to act resolutely in line with it. Ho called for further efforts to put into practice decisions arising from the congress, in a bid to promote Macau’s development in the new era.
The chief executive issued a statement after this morning's closing session of the congress, which was held today at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. General Secretary of the CPC Central Xi Jinping Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the session.
On behalf of the local government and the citizens of the MSAR, Ho extended warm congratulations to the congress on its successful conclusion, according to the statement released through the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) in Chinese, Portuguese and English.
The congress was of significant importance, as it was held at a critical moment, when the country has been embarked on a new journey to build the nation into a modern socialist country in all respects, while advancing towards its Second Centenary Goal, Ho said, adding that the work report delivered by Xi to the congress during its opening session last Sunday contained far-sighted and inspirational goals.
Ho pointed out in his statement that during seven-day congress the local government had joined hands with various sectors of the local community to study and understand, through various forms, its spirit. Ho also said that the congress further boosted local awareness of national affairs and the local community's patriotism, adding that the congress reinforced local people's confidence in the motherland's bright future and Macau's future prospects.
Ho said that General Secretary Xi's speech at the congress pointed a clear way forward for the implementation of the One Country, Two Systems principle, and also boosted Macau people's morale.
With the successful conclusion of the 20th CPC National Congress, the country ushered in enhanced development prospects, which will provide Macau with more top development opportunities as well, Ho said.
The local government will unite and lead all sectors of the local community, based on the spirit of the congress, in order to implement resolutely the One Country, Two systems principle, adhere firmly to the Central People's Government's overall jurisdiction and uphold unwaveringly the principle of “patriots governing Macau”, the chief executive said in his statement.
The MSAR government will also step up its efforts to seize proactively opportunities arising from national development progress, speed up Macau's integration into overall national development and maintain Macau's prosperity and long-term stability, Ho said, adding that these efforts will advance Macau's contributions to the successful implementation of the One Country, Two Systems principle with local characteristics, as well as its contributions to the development of a modern socialist country, and to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Ho is a former member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
