Members of the government-appointed Central Districts Social Services Consultative Committee urged the government yesterday to set up a registration system for domestic gas water heater installers and prohibit the use of flueless gas water heaters in bathrooms.

According to the installation requirements for domestic gas water heaters issued by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department in Hong Kong, such water heaters do not have a flue to convey combustion gas to external air.

Central Districts Social Services Consultative Committee member Ron Lam U Tou made the remarks to reporters after the meeting which was held behind closed doors at the Central District Residents Service Centre in Rotunda de Carlos da Maia.
