The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) was featured in the Smart Community Tourism Webinar Series, highlighting the positive impact of the UNWTO.TedQual Certification System on IFTM students and staff development, its graduates’ employability and quality assurance regarding its education, according to a recent statement by the tertiary education institution.

The statement pointed out the UNWTO.TedQual Certification System is “a tool to assure the quality of tourism sector education” and measures academic systems’ efficiency and the extent of which the tourism industry and students’ needs are incorporated into each tourism education programme. It is linked to the Madrid-based United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Academy.

The statement noted that the webinar series was led by Japan’s Ritsumeikan University and organised by a global network of scholars in the field of tourism and hospitality. It was hosted in conjunction with the UNWTO Academy and Ritsumeikan University.

IFTM was presented in the international webinar as a “success case regarding its efforts to maximise the benefits available via the UNWTO.TedQual Certification System”, which also featured various stakeholders connected to IFTM such as its management members and alumni.

The webinar featured various speakers such as IFTM President Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan and Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, among others.

IFTM was the first institution worldwide to receive the UNWTO.TedQual in tourism education in 2000 and currently has eight UNWTO.TedQual-certified bachelor’s degree programmes, the highest number of any institution worldwide.
