The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted Standby Signal No. 1 at 1 a.m. today.

According to the bureau’s website, the signal will remain in effect at least until this early morning.

It also said that the probability of Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 3 being hoisted this afternoon and evening was “relatively high”. However, it also said that the probability of Signal No. 8 being hoisted on Wednesday was “medium”, while the probability of issuing a Blue Storm Surge warning between this afternoon and evening was “medium” as well.

The observatory said that Severe Tropical Storm “Nalgae” was located about 790 km south-southeast of Macau at 1 a.m. today, and that it was expected to move northwards and slowly approach the nation’s southern coast.

According to the weather station, under the combined impact of “Nalgae” and a northeast monsoon, local winds were expected to intensify, with occasional showers, between tomorrow and Thursday. The observatory also pointed out that flooding may occur in the Inner Harbour area between midnight and early morning.
